You'll remember the last time they met up; it was in Blueland on the 6th of the month as our Thrashers came away with a 5-2 win. The last time into the HSBC Arena the Thrashers got spanked 6-0 in the fourth game of the schedule. But these days Buffalo has hit a patch of black ice in the season, going 0-5-5 in their past 10 and have not won a game since the Saturday prior to Christmas. Oh, if your interested in such things, the Thrashers are considered a "Silver" game in Buffalo. Powering Up "The Un-Good: Their power play continues to sputter at 15th best in the NHL at 18.2%. While that's up from 16.0%, 19th in the league, that number needs to get to about 20%". I wrote that for the second quarter report card earlier in the month.
Mauritania gunmen target embassy
The Israeli ambassador said the wounded man was a Mauritanian who lived nearby, and that no embassy staff had been hurt in the overnight shooting in the city. Witnesses said the six attackers had traded fire with embassy guards before shouting "God is great" as they fled. In December, four French tourists were killed by suspected Islamist militants. At least nine people were arrested in connection with that attack, which occurred in Aleg, about 250km (160 miles) east of Nouakchott. Prosecutors said they were thought to belong to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb - an Algeria-based group formerly known as the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC). Authorities in the West African country of Guinea-Bissau later said they had arrested five other Mauritanians over the killings.

HEALTH-US: Sick, Literally, of Fighting in Iraq
Tileston suspects her son has developed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), an anxiety disorder that can emerge after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened. A person experiencing PTSD can lose touch with reality and believe that the traumatic incident is happening all over again. Pentagon doctors estimate that 12 percent of the 1.5 million veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from PTSD. Newly revised Defence Department guidelines for service-members with "a psychiatric disorder in remission, or whose residual symptoms do not impair duty performance" say they may be considered for duty downrange. It lists post-traumatic stress disorder as a "treatable" problem. Many believe President George W. Bush's newly announced plan to send 21,500 additional U.S.
Veterans Administration to expand Greeley clinic
The Veterans Administration is moving its Greeley clinic to a larger location later this year. Operated by the Cheyenne VA Medical Center, the clinic has been open at 2020 16th St. since 1998. According to officials in Cheyenne, the clinic will move to the second floor of the Summit View Medical Commons, 2001 70th Ave., where it will take 10,000 square feet and about double its present location. The move, according to a press release from Cheyenne, will come no later than summer, but a tentative date of March 1 for completion of the space has been set. Andy Ruben, public information officer at Cheyenne, said services will be expanded and the VA will add additional services for veterans in northeast Colorado once the move is completed. Hensel Phelps Construction of Greeley is completing tenant finish work on the new location.

The Judgment.
Following a nerve-shattering legal battle, Pakistan's Supreme Court has allowed the country's military ruler, General Pervez Musharraf to contest the presidential election in uniform, which is scheduled to be held on October 6. "The petitions hereby are dismissed as not maintainable" announced Justice Rana Bhagwandas, the head of the panel of nine judges hearing a string of petitions challenging the re-election of General Musharraf in uniform for next five-year term. Six of the nine-judge larger bench gave verdict in favor of dismissing the petitions while other three judges, including Justice Rana Bhagwandas, differed. As soon as the verdict was announced, the lawyers present in the courtroom shouted “shame shame" slogans, and anti-Musharraf slogans, forcing the judges to leave the courtroom in a hurry.
